Shared Path Consultation Initiative
Shared Path Consultation Initiative is a charitable organisation that addresses the challenges and opportunities that emerge where land use change and Aboriginal and Treaty Rights intersect.
I was first engaged to develop a logo that would aid in establishing SPCI as a trusted ally, relationship-builder, and info hub. As an organisation working in the intersection of Indigenous communities and governments, it was imperative to communicate legitimacy, and especially an interest in relationship-building, not just efficiency or tokenism. We held several discussions about relationship-building and the ways Shared Path worked to establish trust with Ontario’s Indigenous communities and their leaders.
Along with my own research, the client brought forward suggestions to use traditional symbols of interconnectivity such as a sweetgrass braid, circular elements, or a bridge. The resulting logo aims to incorporate these ideas and convey pathways forward, working together, and reference natural elements of land and water.
The website required diligence toward thoughtful and meaningful visual solutions that set SPCI apart as a trusted resource and clearly presented the incredible resources they had built. Wireframes aided in working through the early solutions and allowed us to begin working on prototypes that would show the interaction and main features of the site, including a comprehensive multimedia resource library requiring the design of an approachable visual system for users to engage with it. High fidelity designs in an interactive prototype allowed the client to fully walk through the website and troubleshoot anything that came up, before any code was written.
In addition to the front end, the back end required sophisticated work to feature complex additions such as the multi-filter-enabled resource library, an events calendar, an interactive shared land map, and a members-only area (with membership management software integration).

I have worked with Reesa Del Duca a number of times over the past decade and each occasion has been smooth and delightful. Reesa is insightful, incredibly well-organised and efficient, and pleasant to work with. She is able to gain good insight into the organisation/initiative, such that she is able to provide beautiful solutions that draw on the values/mandate/vision. She guides her clients through what can seem like overwhelming processes with clearly articulated and executed process. And she navigates the challenges of editing with tact and grace.
